Your pregnancy can be hard on your body. The good news is that you can reduce the impact that pregnancy has on your body by following some basic health and beauty tips. You want to have a healthy pregnancy, and the best thing you can do is to take care of yourself. Here are 50 excellent health and beauty tips that can aid you in having a happier, healthier pregnancy.

Exercise

Physical wellness and strength is an important part of your pregnancy. You want to make sure that you are in the best possible shape. Consult with your health care professional about an exercise routine, and consider these tips for better exercise during pregnancy:

Drink water: You want to make sure that you drink plenty of water when you exercise while pregnant. This will help you remain hydrated, and keep the blood vessels from contracting and cutting off nutrients to your baby.

Avoid dangerous sports: Dangerous sports can harm you and your baby during pregnancy. Mountain biking, high impact aerobics and any sort of extreme sport should be avoided.

Realize that some weight gain is healthy: Don’t go to extremes when exercising. Realize that some weight gain during pregnancy is healthy and desirable. Don’t exercise so much that you are unhealthy.

Consider yoga: Not all yoga is healthy for a pregnancy, but prenatal yoga can be a good way to strengthen and tone your body, while providing you with gentle exercise and a mind-body connection.

Avoid lying flat on your back: Lying flat during exercise can cause problems during pregnancy. If you are concerned about your abs, there are exercises you can do that keep you from lying flat.

Wear appropriate clothing: Proper workout clothing will increase your comfort and ensure that you (and the baby) are not restricted.

Start slowly: This is especially important if you have not been exercising prior to becoming pregnant. Start gradually and work up to more activity.

Consider multiples: There might be additional exercise considerations if you are carrying multiples.

Warm up: Make sure that you properly warm-up your body during pregnancy exercise to avoid injury and other problems.

Cool down: You want to properly disengage your body from the exercises through a good cool down.

Consider post-pregnancy exercise: You want to prepare for post-pregnancy exercises ahead of time. If you ease into from an exercise regimen during pregnancy, it will be a little easier.

Nutrition

Good nutrition helps the fetus develop properly, and can keep you healthy. Here are some nutrition tips to follow during pregnancy:

Don’t get too excited about “eating for two”: While you do need more calories during pregnancy, you do not need more than about 300 extra calories. Don’t double your caloric intact while pregnant.

Get folic acid: This nutrient has been shown to help aid in the development of the baby. Make sure you are getting adequate folic acid.

Get calcium: Your baby’s development is influenced by calcium — as is your bone strength.

Get iron: You can fight fatigue during pregnancy with the proper amount of iron.

Avoid alcohol: You can seriously damage the baby — and yourself — by drinking during pregnancy.

Cut back on caffeine: A great deal of caffeine consumption during pregnancy can slow fetal development by restricting bloodflow to the baby. Reduce your intake for your baby’s sake.

Reduce fatty foods intake: Fatty foods can increase heartburn during pregnancy, not to mention these foods are not rich in the nutrients your baby needs.

Avoid gestational diabetes: You can take steps, such as eating a health diet, to avoid gestational diabetes. Your health care provider will test you and help you avoid the pitfalls that lead to this complication.

Be careful with your Vegan diet: If you are vegan, you can have a healthy pregnancy. Just be sure you are getting adequate protein through your non-animal sources.

Create an eating plan: You can monitor what you eat, and eat more healthy foods, when you create a pregnancy eating plan.

Mental Health and Mood

Part of your health and wellness — and even your beauty — can be traced to mental health and mood. Here are some tips to help you fight mood swings and improve your outlook:

Slow down and avoid fatigue: Fatigue — mental and physical — can affect your mood and your mental health. Slow down and perhaps limit your activities so that you are not as tired.

Get adequate sleep: You can protect yourself from mental fatigue and mood swings by getting enough rest and sleep during pregnancy.

Take time to relax: There are a number of safe things you can do to relax and reduce anxiety during pregnancy. Special massage and other techniques can be used.

Do something that you enjoy: Taking time to do something that you like can help you enjoy life more, and reduce your mood swings.

Share your feelings: Sometimes it can help to talk to your partner or even a professional counselor in order to get your feelings sorted out, and deal with anxieties.

Meditation: Connect with your body and clear your mind. Meditation can aid in relaxation and stress reduction.

Depression treatment: In some cases, it might be necessary to get depression treatment during pregnancy. If you feel that you are having difficulties deal with your mental health on your own, seek professional help.

Exercise: Following an approved exercise program during pregnancy can help you reduce your feelings of anxiety and depression. A healthy body can contribute to a healthy mind.

Eat right: Like exercise, proper nutrition also has mental health benefits. Make sure to follow the right healthy eating habits to improve your mood.

Educate yourself: Calm anxieties and find peace of mind by getting reliable information about pregnancy and what to expect.

Address small problems early on: Instead of waiting for small problems to become large, address them early so that anxiety is contained.

Skin Care

During pregnancy, some of the biggest concerns are about skin care. Here are some skin care tips for pregnancy:

Melasma: This is a darkening of the skin around the nose, cheeks and forehead that can look mask-like. You can wear sunscreen to help limit the effects.

Stretch marks: One of the most dreaded skin issues related to pregnancy is that of stretch marks. You keep your skin moisturized, as well as get proper nutrition to minimize the appearance of stretch marks.

Acne: The adolescent affliction of acne often returns during pregnancy. Speak with a professional if lots of water, good nutrition and pregnancy safe creams don’t get it under control.

Dry, itchy skin: You are likely to encounter dry, itchy skin during pregnancy. Moisturizer and even olive oil can help. You can also avoid hot water and soaps that dry out the skin.

Varicose veins: These unsightly blemishes can be annoying for some women. Regular exercise, vitamin C and some special tights can help reduce the appearance of varicose veins.

Spider veins: Avoid crossing your legs, and increase vitamin C to help reduce the appearance of spider veins.

Red palms: You might end up with red palms. Sadly, there isn’t much you can do beyond waiting to give birth. But be aware of it. Sometimes moisturizer can ease itchiness.

Exfoliate: You can give your skin a healthy pregnancy glow by gently exfoliating daily.

Drink water: You can drink water to help ease a lot of skin problems. Make sure to drink plenty of water to keep your skin elastic and smooth.

Makeup and Beauty

You want to feel like you look beautiful during your pregnancy. Here are some general makeup and beauty tips:

Avoid too much makeup: It can be tempting to cake it on, but try to avoid wearing too much makeup.

Concealer: Use this to hide the circles under your eyes.

Highlights: You can still add highlights or full hair color during pregnancy. You can even use “hair mascara” if you are concerned.

Shave your legs: This can help you feel sexy. However, you need to be careful about how you go about shaving your legs, and take precautions later in your pregnancy, since it can get tricky.

Solid colors: You can embrace your curves and keep things simple with solid colors. You can also find career maternity clothes that provide a professional look.

Have you ever wanted to become a celebrity for the fame and wealth? If you can bypass the fame for the most part, you may be surprised that the healthcare field offers more jobs and at higher pay than any other profession in the U.S. So, put up that basketball (unless it will provide you with a scholarship) and crack open those med books if you want to earn a living that will place you in the top jobs listed below.

Since you were geared to become famous, we offer seventeen high-paying healthcare jobs you may have never heard about – or at least might not have thought about. We took our numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics as well as from wage income sites and medical sites that listed odd jobs and their descriptions. So, the numbers have been rounded and it is noted often that location, education and expertise often determine the higher end of these salary ranges.

The list is in alphabetical order to show our readers that we do not favor one job over another.

Anesthesiologist: did you ever think that the person who ‘puts you under’ for surgery makes more money than you? And, you don’t need to put out money for an expensive wardrobe to boot. Anesthesiologists are found in just about every operating room in the nation, and they make, on average, about $185,000 per year. If you want top pay, try ambulatory health care in Washington state or Wilmington, Delaware metro area.

Clinical Ethicist: If you know that there are no “wrong” and “right” answers to many questions, this job may be up your alley. The clinical ethicist follows guidelines set by government and health care facility standards. If this sounds too rigid for you, then realize that these standards constantly are changing to satisfy patient rights, privacy, quality of life, death and the allocation of health resources. A skilled clinical ethicist can make up to $150,000 per year.

Dentist: This category includes oral surgeons, orthodontists and prosthodontists. Orthodontists alone make almost $180,000 per year, while oral surgeons can pull in about $165,000 per year. Prosthodontists, who make oral prostheses to replace missing teeth and other oral structures, make over $155,000 per year.

Disastor Medical Specialist: Although you can earn from $150,000 to $300,000 in this career, you also need about twelve years of education beyond high school and some years of experience behind you. This job places you first on the scene during emergencies that involve mass injuries or illness, such as those that occur after a natural disaster or a man-made emergency such as a train derailment or a terrorist attack. You also can sideline by creating emergency plans for health care facilities.

Forensic Odontology: If you want to take a low-paying dentistry job into a higher sphere, try this career as a full- or part-time diversion. forensic odontologists use their expertise to help identify unknown remains and trace bite marks to a specific individual. Salaries in this career can range from $150,000 – $185,000 per year.

Forensic Pathologist: Although some medical examiners are pathologists, not all have the training to fit into this category. Forensic pathologists are trained physicians who examine bodies of people who died suddenly, unexpectedly or violently. You also get to perform autopsies, and if you serve the rich and famous, you, too, could become a celebrity like Thomas Noguchi. Salary for this career ranges between $100,000 to $500,000 per year, depending upon your education, skills and the location of the job.

Hospital CEO: If you want the spotlight to shine on you, then try this career on for size. You determine and formulate policies and provide overall direction of a company, healthcare facility or a department within a facility. You can make between $145,000 and $185,000 per year with this job.

Internist: A general internist can make about $160,000 per year, with Louisiana pulling in the top wages for this trade at over $180,000 per year.

Medical Librarian: Do you have books in your blood? If so, you can help others while being surrounded by books and a quiet environment. While the salary is on the low end for this list (from $40,000 to $160,000), your skills, location and range of education will place you on the higher end of that scale.

Obstetricians and Gynecologists: These doctors make more than anesthesiologists, and often in a much more relaxed environment. These jobs bring in about $175,000 per year, with the highest pay found in new Hampshire.

Optometrist: While this may seem like an ‘ordinary’ medical practice, you might be surprised to learn that optometrists have the widest range in salary – from $0 to over $175.000, depending upon where you work and your clientele. Doctors of optometry (OD) examine, diagnose, treat and manage eye diseases, injuries and disorders. U.S. News & World Report listed optometry as one of the Best Jobs for Investigative People, because it’s “a profession with a high cure rate, regular hours, good pay, and realistic potential for being successfully self-employed.”

Palliative Care Doctor: If you enjoy working with the elderly and making great money in the process, then this career may be for you. Although hospice care can include palliative care, not all palliative care includes end-of-life issues. But, people who need palliative care often do have serious health issues, possibly chronic conditions. So, having a strong heart and a caring manner are important for this job, where you can make between $150,000 and $170,000 per year.

Pediatricians: Children often need doctors more than adults, so you’ll be busy if you choose this field. But, the rewards and the salary might be worth the effort at an average annual salary over $145,000 per year. School doctors usually make out better than pediatricians in offices, and Louisiana will pay nicely for your skills.

Primary Care Sports Medicine: The sky is the limit in this field, where you can work with star athletes or with a group of elderly and physically active folks. You can work in surgical areas or in primary care, which encompasses all non-surgical care. In all cases, for between $100,000 and $200,000 per year, you work to prevent injury, improve performance and to enhance the overall health of your patients.

Podiatrist: You can make between $115,000 and $185,000 by diagnosing and treating diseases and deformities of the human foot. Oregon is looking for some good podiatrists, and you can make high-end dollar in the Orlando-Kissimmee, Florida metro area. You want to find outpatient care centers for your best dollar, too.

Psychiatrist: If you like to listen to other people’s problems, then there is no reason why you should not get paid for your skill. Psychiatrists see no problem with pulling in up to $150,000 to $300,000 per year, depending upon your education, training and location.

Surgeon: If you want to make the really big bucks, then specialize in this field. According to Forbes, a specialist surgeon can pull in over $185,000 per year. But, think about location as well and the number of years of study and training involved before you take this choice over something more glamorous.

Surgeons have developed and tried new techniques within the past few years, and many of those efforts were discovered in the battlefields of Iraq. Others were developed simply in response to heart-breaking cases of children with severe physical and internal malformations.

The following list of 25 incredible medical operations are so wild that you may not think they are possible. You may have heard of some, but the stories behind the links below can help you to realize the vast possibilities available to help save lives. The links are listed in alphabetical order to show readers we do not favor one story over another.

Baby Macie Hope Born Twice: Marcie Hope was born twice – once when surgeons at Texas Children’s Hospital took the tiny fetus from Marcie’s mother’s womb to remove a tumor that would have killed Macie before she was born. Marcie was born again on 3 May, surgically repaired and perfectly healthy.

Birthmark Removal: Cody Hall was born with a hemangioma, a tumorous birthmark that distorted the shape of her face and grew larger as she got older. But, eighteen reconstructive surgeries later, the girl with the hopelessly deformed face flashed a gorgeous smile at her prom.

Born with Two Heads: Manar Maged was born in 2004 with an extremely rare medical condition known as craniopagus parasiticus, or one body and two heads. Manar’s second head, although fully functioning, could not survive without Manar; but, it was a parasite surviving on Manar’s blood supply and putting her life at risk. Surgery to separate Manar from her “twin” was successful, although the parasitic twin did not survive. Also, Manar may suffer from brain damage, but only time will tell.

Brain Pacemaker: Laura Herbert suffered from dystonia, a movement disorder that affects a quarter-million Americans. It’s caused by abnormal activity in the part of the brain that regulates muscle control. But, in 2007, a ‘pacemaker’ installed in Laura’s brain enables her to walk and move normally.

Brain Removal: Six-year-old Jessie Hall had half her brain removed in 2008 as treatment for Rasmussen’s encephalitis, which causes seizures. Although this is a radical procedure, it worked. Follow Jessie’s recovery at her blog.

Brain Responds to Electrical Impulses: A man who spent more than six years in a near-vegetative state has made a dramatic recovery following a pioneering treatment to stimulate his brain with electrical impulses. This procedure worked despite surgery immediately after trauma.

Deep Brain Stimulation: A ground-breaking procedure being carried out at Queen’s Hospital in New York is transforming the lives of people with Parkinson’s Disease. The procedure sees a tiny electrode inserted into a specific area of the brain. When it is switched on, it can drastically reduce the tremors experienced by Parkinson’s sufferers.

Don’t Sweat It: Hyperhidrosis is a condition that creates excess sweating of the hands and feet. Previous operations to remedy this condition were major, with long recovery periods. But, in 1999, Dr. Cooper, clinical chief of neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, created endoscopic sympathectomy, a procedure that uses the world’s smallest endoscope, a fiber optic camera just three millimeters wide. He used this camera to locate sympathetic nerves that run behind the lungs and through the chest. During the procedure, the T2 segments of the nerve chain which control sweating of the hands and feet are severed to permanently stop excess perspiration.

Headache Relief: Although young Danyelle Williamson suffers from a host of problems as a result of spinal malformations, her headaches and dizzy spells have been cured thanks to a surgery where the back part of Danyelle’s first cervical vertebrae and part of the occipital bone of the skull were removed, taking the pressure off her brain stem and spinal cord.

Heart Movement Surgery: In September 2009, surgeons operated on an eight-day-old infant to move his heart from outside his chest to inside, where it belongs. Born with the birth defect, Ectopia cordis, this child is a statistic that includes five to nine cases per million births with extremely high mortality rate.

Hernias Get Help: The tradition hernia operation that has been performed for over a century may culminate in further physical issues. Now, however, hernioplasty procedures have dramatically reduced all the problems caused by the older operation. One advance includes the “plug and patch” procedure, in which the bulge is pushed in and held back with special mesh material.

High-Risk Organ Removal: Seven-year-old Heather McNamara went through a grueling operation this year, where surgeons removed six vital organs to reach a baseball-sized tumor that threatened her life. During the 23-hour surgery, Kato’s team removed and chilled the child’s stomach, pancreas, spleen, liver and small and large intestines as they would for transplantation, so they could be restored after the tumor was taken out.

In-Utero Foot Repair: Australian surgeons saved the feet of a baby in the womb in 2008 by performing what is believed to be the earliest in-utero surgery of its kind in the world. Constricting bands were cutting off the blood to Leah Bowlen’s feet when her mother was 22-weeks pregnant. Without the ground-breaking surgery, little Leah would have been born with no feet. Now, there is only an indentation mark around her ankle to indicate the problem that was rectified.

Mermaid Baby Cured: Milagros Cerron has a rare syndrome called “sirenomelia,” which describes her legs, which were fused together from her trunk to heels creating what is known as “mermaid syndrome.” Doctors inserted silicon tissue-expanders under Milagro’s skin to cause her skin to grow. This procedure created enough skin for doctors to use when they separated her legs for normal growth.

Metal Saves the Face: Marlie Casseus at age 14 suffered from a rare form of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, a genetic disease that causes the sufferer’s bones to become swollen and as soft as jelly. Once tumors were removed, surgeons began to insert metal plates into Marlie’s face to reconstruct her profile. More surgeries will follow to help replace the degenerating bone, but the operations have returned Marlie to an almost normal life.

Nation’s First Face Transplant: Five years ago, a shotgun blast left a ghastly hole where the middle of Connie Culp’s face had been. In May, she received a new face from a dead woman that allows her to talk, smile, smell and taste her food again.

New Knee Surgery Technique: By transplanting cellular material from the pelvic area into the knee, surgeons were able to help patients to nearly normal activity and knee function with no complications. This type of surgery can help to eliminate knee replacements.

Robotic Myotomy: Surgeons at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago (UIC) performed a robotic-assisted surgery on a 12-year-old Chicago boy with a rare swallowing disorder called achalasia in 2006. UIC surgeons were the first in the world to perform robotic myotomy for achalasia in adults and in children.

Scarless Surgery: Scientists have made new advances in a technology-called “Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery” (NOTES), that could pave the way for scarless gastroenterology and surgery. NOTES eliminates the need for incisions and allows for less pain and scarring associated with traditional laparoscopic surgery along with a much faster recovery time for the patient.

Severed Spine Rejoined: After blades in a tractor’s harrow severed Premchand’s spine, he was denied treatment by five hospitals before doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences took him in. Her spine twisted at a 30-degree angle, enough to limit growth and that would limit her life to 15-20 years. But, in 2004, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved an artificial rib called a Vertical Expandable Prosthetic Titanium Rib (VEPTR), that acts like a jack to push bones into the proper position. The surgery, performed in 2005, may have saved Kate’s life.

Want to improve your health? Yes, you have those regular diets and age-old exercise programs that can help promote overall health. But here are some little known ways that will help improve your health without you having to put much effort.

Use Neti Pots: This nasal rinse technique can do a lot to improve your health. You breathe 24*7 and it is only justified if you give your nose a little care and attention. Owing to increasing pollution, a lot of dirt and unwanted particles tend to get trapped within the inner linings of your nose. Neti pots help remove mucus and other unwanted substances. This helps prevent various respiratory problems, allergies, colds and sinusitis.

Brush your skin: We all brush our teeth but none of us brush our skin, which happens to be the largest organ in the body. Brushing your skin aids in detoxification of the lymph system and promotes overall health.

Laugh out loud: They say that laughter is the best medicine and they are absolutely right when they say that. Laughing has numerous health benefits. It releases the feel good hormones known as endorphins in the body. Also laughing helps relieve stress, strengthens the immune system and also reduces blood pressure.

Live in a greener environment: Make sure that you have enough plants around. Plants not just convert the carbon dioxide into oxygen but they also purify the air so that you breathe in fresher air. Also they help humidify various air allergies. Plants are also known to relieve stress and have various psychological benefits.

Eat onions: You should try to include onions in your diet. Onion is known to have various benefits for your bones. It protects your bones and prevents resorption i.e. the primary cause of osteoporosis. But this does not mean you need to gorge on onions. Even as little as one gram of onion can help.

Get intimate: Having regular sex with your partner ensures numerous health benefits. Sex helps alleviate stress, wards off extra calories and also strengthens immune system. Recent studies also state that regular sex reduces the risk of coronary attacks and various other heart diseases.

Take the spiritual route: It is not just your body but your mind as well that needs to be fit for overall health. While you exercise your body with a workout, give your mind also training by indulging in spirituality. Spiritual inclinations relax and soothe the nervous system, they calm your mind and keep you stress free.

Practice deep breathing: We breathe everyday but most of it is shallow breathing. Hence, oxygen is unable to reach your system. It is for this reason you should practice deep breathing everyday. Inhale for three seconds and then exhale for three seconds. Repeat this as many times as you can.

Be with friends: Spend time with your loved ones. This will not just improve your relationships but your health as well. It will help alleviate everyday stress and also offer various psychological benefits. It is proven that people who are with friends are less prone to heart diseases or mental illness.

Get some sunlight: Giving your self some time in the sun is another way to improve health. Sunlight causes your body to produce vitamin D, which is essential for your bones.
